The man charged with the brutal rape and murder of a 15-year-old girl back in 2011 learned his fate this evening.

Javier Righetti has been sentenced to death in the murder of Alyssa Otremba.

On Sept. 2, 2011, Otremba, missing her geometry book, walked through a tunnel to a friend’s house hoping to borrow his book. On her return trip, prosecutors say Righetti spotted Otremba and tracked her with a knife in hand.

Prosecutors say he murdered, raped, and burned the Arbor View High School student.

The defense did not cross-examine any witnesses. Righetti has already pleaded guilty to nine other counts including first-degree kidnapping and sexual assault. The guilty plea was tossed out in 2016.
