Local couple escapes car after being trapped in monsoon rains

The start of monsoon season brought severe flooding that nearly sent one couple underwater in their car.

The National Weather Service of Las Vegas issued flood warning across the valley just after 11:00 p.m. Monday night.

About an hour later, one couple who lives near Fogg and Charleston hopped in the car to grab some a bite to eat. Their trip came to a halt when they attempted to go over what they thought was a "small puddle" in the road.

As it turns out, the puddle was not very small.

Annia Sosa who was in the car with her husband, told News 3 their car shut off and was pulled in nearly halfway into a flood area. The couple was able to open the door and escape in waist deep water. Sosa is hoping that sharing their experience will prevent other drivers from getting in the same situation.

“Don’t go through the puddle. Even if it looks like you can go through it, don’t do it. You don’t really know how deep it is. I thank God that we were able to get out safely. It was pretty scary", said Sosa.

Sosa tells News 3 their baby girl was at home with her grandmother at the time of the incident. Sosa and her husband escaped with no injuries.
