Motorcyclist dead, off-duty police officer injured in southwest valley crash

UPDATE, Jan. 14 | The Clark County Coroner's Office has identified the person killed as 34-year-old Charles Add Kirkling Jr. of Las Vegas.

The cause of death has been determined to be multiple blunt force injuries, according to the coroner's office, and the manner of death is officially ruled as an accident.

ORIGINAL | Nevada Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal motorcycle-involved crash Saturday, Jan. 12, that occurred in the southwest valley.

The crash was reported around 2:15 p.m. at the intersection of Buffalo Drive and Mountains Edge Parkway.

According to Trooper Jason Buratczuk with NHP, a vehicle being driven by an off-duty Las Vegas Metropolitan Police officer was turning northbound onto Buffalo Drive when a Honda Sport Bike traveling westbound on Mountains Edge Parkway struck the passenger side of the vehicle.

The motorcyclist, a 35-year-old local male, was ejected from the bike and pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver off-duty LVMPD officer was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

While the crash is still under investigation, impairment is not suspected, though speed was a factor for the motorcycle.

NHP and LVMPD have an agreement to handle fatal crashes involving personnel of each other's departments so that a thorough and transparent investigation can be completed, according to Trooper Jason Buratczuk.

The identity of the deceased will be released by the Clark County coroner's office once next of kin have been notified.
