UPDATE, Dec. 3 | Las Vegas Metropolitan Police have identified the officer who shot and killed a suspect on Saturday as Officer Paul Bruning.

According to LVMPD, Bruning has been with the department since January 2005, and he is assigned to the Traffic Bureau's Tourist Safety Division.

He is on routine paid administrative leave pending a review of the shooting, police say.

The Clark County Coroner's Office has identified the suspect killed as 43-year-old Demontry Floytra Boyd.

11:30 A.M. UPDATE | The shooting occurred near Sunrise Avenue and North 18th Street, police said. The man was driving fast and in a reckless manner so officers attempted a vehicle stop.

The officer requested that driver get out of the car.

When he did, the suspect was reaching for a bulky item at his waist and he refused to follow officer commands. The confrontation turned physical before the officer pulled out a Taser and used it.

The subject did fall to the ground, but got back up and charged the officer.

A second physical fight started and the officer pulled his gun and fired it at the suspect an undetermined number of times.

Darrin Wong was nearby when the incident occurred and said, "I was literally one or two minutes from being involved in all of that. I just saw cops going this way, that way fast. It was chaos."

The suspect was transported to UMC where he was pronounced deceased.

Metro said a body camera was capturing footage during the event, and more details will be released next week.

Involved officer(s) will be placed on paid administrative leave. Their names will be provided about 72 hours after the incident.

The shooting was the 22nd officer-involved shooting for LVMPD this year.

The identity of the suspect will be released by the Clark County coroner after relatives have been identified.
