Man and woman arrested in murder and kidnapping case near Desert Inn, Hualapai

On Feb. 7, 2018, at 3:49 a.m., patrol officers were dispatched to the 3300 block of Robin Nest Court, near Desert Inn and Hualapai Way for a report of a female screaming and being forced into a grey BMW.

When officers arrived they found a man with multiple gunshot wounds inside of a residence. The victim was transported to UMC Trauma where he died.

The investigation initiated by the LVMPD Homicide Section indicates that 27-year-old Joseph Fernandez forced his way into the residence armed with a handgun. While inside, Fernandez shot a man and then forced a woman into a grey BMW sedan and fled the area.

Fernandez then drove the victim to an apartment located near the 5100 block of Torrey Pines and met up with 26-year-old Jessica Tolentino-Arciga.

Tolentino-Arciga assisted Fernandez in restraining the victim inside the apartment. Shortly after, Tolentino-Arciga left the apartment to see if officers were in the area.

During the course of the incident, the victim was able to escape from the apartment. She walked to a store near Tropicana Avenue and Jones Boulevard where she called 911.

At approximately 4:27 a.m., the LVMPD Air unit located a grey BMW matching the description of the suspect vehicle driving recklessly near Jones Boulevard and Russell Road. Marked patrol units pursued the suspect vehicle to northbound I-15 and Tropicana Avenue exit.

Patrol units were able to forcefully stop the suspect vehicle by utilizing the Precision Intervention Technique (PIT).

Fernandez was taken into custody without further incident. During the course of the investigation, Tolentino-Arciga was arrested inside the apartment where the victim had been held.

Joseph Fernandez is currently at Clark County Detention Center and faces multiple charges, including Open Murder, Burglary with Weapon, Kidnapping 1st Degree, Conspiracy Kidnapping 1st Degree, and Conspiracy to Murder.

Tolentino-Arciga is currently in CCDC and faces charges Kidnapping, 1st Degree, Conspiracy Kidnapping, 1st Degree and Conspiracy to Murder.
