LAS VEGAS (KSNV) - A man has been accused of murder after a woman's body was found inside a suitcase.
That woman has been identified as 22-year-old Morgan Briel Amaya; the Clark County Coroner revealed she died from a gunshot wound to the head.
Morgan's sister-in-law, Nicole Marie, tells News 3 that Morgan had been battling drug addiction and trying to get clean so she could take custody of her 1-year-old daughter.
Nicole and her fiance Victor Hougesen say they did all they could to help keep her on the right track.
Even eerier is the couple says they talked to the man accused of murdering her, he's identified as 55-year-old Gary Walker.
"We just talked to her Tuesday; everything was fine, and I talked to the guy he seemed like he was cool," Victor said.
They say they thought he was a friend who was helping Morgan by giving her a place to stay since she and her husband separated.
However, on Wednesday, around 9:14 a.m., a woman notified a Marshal at the Regional Justice Center that she needed assistance. She told Marshals that she had been kidnapped and sexually assaulted by a suspect, later identified as Gary Walker, who had accompanied her to court.
Walker was detained, and the LVMPD was notified.
Sexual assault Detectives responded and learned that the victim had been sexually assaulted at a residence located in the 400 block of North Nellis Boulevard, near Stewart Avenue.
Detectives were also advised that Walker murdered another woman at the same residence. Detectives responded to the residence and found her body inside of a suitcase.
Walker was arrested and transported to the Clark County Detention Center for Murder, Kidnapping, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, and Sexual Assault.
