RENO, Nev. (News 4 & Fox 11) — A man is behind bars facing multiple charges after he was shot by police in downtown Reno after firing nearly 20 rounds with a stolen gun.
During the early morning hours of December 22, officers with the Reno Police Department were called to the Riverwalk District on the report of a man firing rounds with a rifle and people running away.
Officers were already in the area and could hear the suspect, 22-year-old Emanuel Sergio Flores-Saldana, firing several rounds. Three bailiffs from the Reno Justice Court were also alerted to the shooting and ran towards Wingfield Park trying to find Flores-Saldana.
Police found the suspect along the river near the amphitheater at Wingfield Park as the bailiffs were shooting at him. The suspect fell to the ground but would not cooperate with the officers to show his hands. When officers with the Reno Police Department went to handcuff the suspect, he got up and ran, according to police. While trying to run from the scene, the bailiffs and several officers shot Flores-Saldana.
An investigation revealed the suspect was shooting a stolen AR-15 rifle when the bailiffs confronted him. He was also armed with a 12-gauge shotgun. Police determined the suspect fired 17 rounds from the AR-15. It was also determined Flores-Saldana stole the guns an hour prior in a commercial burglary.
Saldana-Flores was re-arrested on Friday, January 13 by the Sparks Police Department on charged with multiple other crimes including assault on a protected person, possessing stolen property, discharging a gun at a vehicle or structure and resisting a public officer.
