Nearly a year and a half after Geranique Bentley's death, her killer, Raymond Lewis, will learn his fate on Thursday.

Arrest reports obtained by News 3 says Lewis and Bentley had an on-and-off relationship. They were staying in an abandoned apartment building near Washington and Rainbow.

Investigators had to use DNA to identify Bentley's body.

Reports say Lewis admitted to police he strangled Bentley after the two got into a fight. And when he could not revive her after she stopped breathing, he wrapped her body up and set it on fire.

Her ashes were left behind when investigators discovered her body.

“What would make you do something so cruel to somebody?” Westine Parker, the victim's friend, asks.

Lewis was set for a jury trial in February but then a change of events. In May, Lewis took a guilty plea of first-degree murder leaving other charges for battery, arson and destroying evidence unaddressed.

Lewis is expected to be in court at 9:30 a.m., Thursday morning.
