Man making threats in southwest valley apprehended -- with a BB gun

The suspect was taken into custody at 3:52 p.m. He had a BB gun, police said.


Police officers are working to apprehend a man in the southwest valley who is acting erratic and making threats to kill.

The suspect had a rifle on a second-story apartment at the Torreyana Apartments, 5155 South Torrey Pines near West Hacienda, according to police in a helicopter.

"He has a gun and he is threatening to kill," a caller told police, said Officer Laura Meltzer of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

Torrey Pines was being closed in both directions.

Meltzer said police were securing the apartment complex and a nearby Creative Kids of Las Vegas daycare and Marion Earl Elementary School were being placed on a soft lock down as of 3 p.m.

"He has been acting erratically for a while," Meltzer said.

The incident began about 2:25 p.m.
