McCarran International Airport is expected to get more than $1.1 million in grant funding to help extend its taxiway, Sen. Dean Heller's office said Thursday.

The U.S. Transportation Department awarded the funding as passenger numbers continue to climb this year.

More fliers used McCarran Airport in May than in any previous month in the airport's history, according to a report.

"As McCarran International Airport continues to welcome millions of passengers each year, it’s critical that the airport has the infrastructure resources it needs to ensure that these outgoing and incoming visitors can travel efficiently, safely, and have a positive experience while doing so," Heller said in a statement.
