North Las Vegas man charged with murder, accused of deadly hit-and-run in Texas

FRIDAY 11/23 UPDATE | Austin Taylor Meade turned himself into an Austin, Texas, fire station about 10:30 a.m. CST and police were called.

ORIGINAL | The New Braunfels Police Department is searching for 26-year-old Austin Taylor Meade of North Las Vegas.

He's accused of causing a deadly crash and fleeing in New Braunfels, Texas just northeast of San Antonio.

Police say it all started Wednesday morning with a call for a stolen truck.

When police contacted it, the driver, Meade, fled leading officers on a chase that later turned into a deadly crash.

“This work truck ran a stop sign and slammed into the side of this car directly into the driver’s side killing the driver,” said David Ferguson with the New Braunfels Police Department.

That driver has been identified as 39-year-old Amber Rachelle Williams.

Police say Meade immediately got out of the truck and ran to a nearby park where he flagged down a woman for help.

That woman police say gave Meade a ride to her home where he then held her at knifepoint.

“He took a kitchen knife from her kitchen threatened her, asked for her keys, she gave up the keys and fled in her vehicle,” Ferguson said.

Police are considering Meade potentially armed and dangerous.

Neighbors in the area are in shock.

“Right now, I’m just concerned if it's one of my neighbors or not. I'm trying to make up the car,” said Toby Peters.
