Nye County sergeant, two deputies placed on leave for possibly mishandling hostage case

A Nye County sergeant and two deputies were placed on administrative leave for possibly mishandling a hostage case.

On Nov. 16, Nye County deputies found a 52-year-old woman handcuffed and her 34-year-old son strapped to the mattress in a small bedroom.

The mother and son were malnourished had been held against their will by a younger brother and his girlfriend who lived at the apartment complex.

James Thatcher and girlfriend Chelsea Demille were arrested and charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment and elder abuse. The accomplice, Sandra Wombles, was charged with false imprisonment and elder abuse.

According to Nye County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to the residence on two different occasions.

On both occasions, the deputies left the victims in the horrid conditions.

No other details have been released.
