A man wanted for several felonies allegedly rammed his car into police vehicles before he was shot by officers in the west valley Thursday morning, according to police.

Detectives found a man wanted for several violent felonies at a home on Poplar Leaf Street, part of a gated community in Summerlin, said the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.

The man went into home and while police tried to get him to come out, he drove out of the garage and rammed detectives' unmarked cars multiple times, LVMPD Captain Yasenia Tatomi said.

Officers opened fire and struck the suspect, who was taken to UMC in critical condition, police say. Officers were not injured.

Clark County School District Police confirmed Palo Verde High School, Sig Rogich Middle School and the College of Southern Nevada Summerlin Center were on precautionary lockdowns for the nearby police activity.

The officers involved in the shooting will be placed on paid administrative leave.
