LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — 5:30 P.M. SATURDAY UPDATE:
Police have identified the suspect shot by police Friday night as 34-year-old Antonio Aquino.
According to NLVPD, police shot Aquino after responding to a report of shots fired on Galopagos Avenue. Aquino was reportedly arming himself with a firearm.
After being shot, Aquino refused to surrender to police, resulting in an eight-hour standoff that ended at 3:30 a.m. on Saturday after S.W.A.T. entered the residence.
Aquino was sent to UMC hospital for Treatment. He was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and discharging a gun/weapon where a person might be endangered.
7:30 A.M. SATURDAY UPDATE:
The suspect in the shooting was apprehended about 4 a.m. Saturday after an hours-long standoff. He has been taken to a hospital with unspecified injuries, according to police, who said one officer fired one round. The injuries may be the result of glass breakage and the injuries do not appear life-threatening.
The North Las Vegas Police Department is investigating an officer-involved shooting.
According to the NLVPD's Twitter Page, the shooting took place near Deer Springs Way and Aviary Way near Decatur Boulevard.
Officers responded to the neighborhood after reports of a suspect firing three shots. NLVPD believes the suspect has one firearm and is in the home by himself.
At least one responding officer discharged his weapon. That officer was not injured.
NLVPD is actively working to the get suspect into custody.
Some evacuation orders are underway for some nearby residents.
It is unknown if the suspect is injured.
