LAS VEGAS (KSNV News3LV) — Police have confirmed one person is dead after a drowning at Lake Mead.
LVMPD Lt. Jeff Goodwin confirmed the drowning occurred around 5:30 p.m. Sunday near the Lake Mead Marina and Boulder Harbor.
Lake Mead National Recreation Area officials confirmed they were searching for a teenager who went missing, after receiving an emergency call reporting the swimmer had been under water for more than five minutes.
Chelsea Kennedy with the Lake Mead Public Affairs Office says the body was recovered a few hours later at 9:50 p.m. and the coroner was en route to the scene.
National Park Service rangers and Nevada Department of Wildlife responded to the scene and conducting a search with assistance from the Metro Search and Rescue Dive Team.
The cause of the drowning and the identity of the victim are unknown at this time.
The Clark County Coroner's Office will release the identity of the victim and cause of death once next-of-kin have been notified.
Boulder Harbor is closed until further notice.
