LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Popular Democracy in Action and Make the Road Nevada (MRNV), along with over 400 renters and advocates, rallied for permanently affordable, tenant-owned green social housing.
The rally was to crack down on corporate landlords.
Corporate landlords and Wall Street investors have been buying up a record portion of homes sold and are intensifying the housing crisis for working families. by making housing unaffordable, according to MRNV and Popular Democracy in Action.
"I have been directly affected by the housing crisis and I demand urgent solutions that address this problem at its root. We are at a critical moment, where housing must be a guaranteed right for everyone, not an inaccessible privilege. We all deserve the opportunity for a better life, with the security of having a home, without having to sacrifice basic needs like food or healthcare. In the 2024 elections, it is crucial that housing be a priority, because our working families cannot wait any longer. This is the time to take action and ensure a dignified future for all," said Elizabeth Sanchez, Member of Make the Road Nevada.
Popular Democracy in Action and MRNV are calling on leaders to demand real investments in permanently affordable, tenant-owned green social housing and more effective regulations on corporate landlords.
The rally was aimed at pushing elected officials to make housing policies a priority that will benefit working families due to rising rents and to protect those tenants.
