'Pawn Stars' spin-off: Chumlee sweetens portfolio with new candy store
LAS VEGAS (KSNV News3LV) —
A reality TV star with a troubled past is opening a new business in downtown Las Vegas — and he isn't moving far from his roots.
Austin Russell — better known as Chumlee from "Pawn Stars" — is opening a candy store. It's right across the plaza from the business that made him famous, at Las Vegas Boulevard and Gass.
"Chumlee's Candy on the Boulevard" is stocked and ready for customers.
“I actually think I'm going to have to have a rope in front of my door as well because, as you can see, only 10-15 people can come in here comfortably,” Russell said.
From taffy to vintage favorites, Russell says the store is his chance to invest in the community. Bottle Caps, by the way, are his personal favorite.
“They're still sealed because if they weren't they'd all be gone,” he said.
Chumlee has been a lovable favorite on 13 seasons of the History Channel's "Pawn Stars,” a reality show based in the heart of downtown Las Vegas. Fans like Barry Davies line up daily for a peek inside.
“I watch every episode back in the UK, I never miss it,” he said. “I watch them again and again. They're just fascinating.”
It's no secret though, that it's been a tough year for Chumlee, who pleaded guilty to weapon and drug charges. Today, he says, that is firmly in his past.
“My fan base held judgement and waited to see what came of the situation,” he said. “I made it out on top, and I just thank everyone who stuck by me. And our fans are great.”
The store’s official opening is at noon Monday.
