Project Neon: Plan for the weekend closure of US 95 at Spaghetti Bowl
LAS VEGAS (KSNV) —
Take note, the U.S. 95 through the Spaghetti Bowl is being shut down for the weekend, the closure is part of Project Neon.
Crews don't think rain will slow them down this weekend and if you're frustrated by closures, let's blame this right here: the Southbound I-15 bridge is being demolished, so the U.S. 95 underneath will shut down in both directions.
Another long weekend for drivers, and the businesses that depend on them.
Scott with Iced Out Barbershop, says "I love the atmosphere, I love the people that come through here."
Scott says it's been a great location working out of Iced Out Barber Shop on Martin Luther King near Washington Avenue.
Maneuvering through the nearby Spaghetti Bowl and this weekend, U.S. 95 in that area will be closed in both directions.
"It will stop a lot of traffic but I also believe if your work is good enough, people will find a way to come around to you," said Scott.
The freeway closure will stretch from Martin Luther King Boulevard to Las Vegas Boulevard, and road crews will be taking down the old Southbound 1-15 bridges.
Tony Illia with Nevada Department of Transportation, says "traffic through this corridor is expected to double in the next twenty years, so we really need these improvements now."
Illia also said, drivers should pay attention to overhead active traffic management signs and download traffic apps such as Waze, or the Project Neon app; both offering ways around the tie-ups.
"Project neon is now 60% complete and with the Main Event you will see crews working 6 days a week, day and night," says Illia.
As for Scott, he says the barbershop will be open during the freeway closure, but he does offer one suggestion to the state.
"You gotta go through it. It will be good if they can put a detour sign to 1100 MLK, Iced Out Barber Shop will be okay, " stated Scott.
