Police capture man with knife near Decatur, Washington

LVMPD says a man with a large knife was on top of a 7-Eleven threatening to kill himself and later jumped off the roof to a residential backyard near Decatur and Washington. (Faith Jessie | KSNV)

UPDATE AT 9:28 a.m. | Police have taken the man into custody. Roads in the area have reopened.

LAS VEGAS (KSNV NEWS3LV) -- The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is attempting to capture a man armed with a knife near Decatur Boulevard and Washington Avenue.

The initial call came into police around 8 a.m. on Thursday.

Police say the man was on the roof of a 7-Eleven store threatening to stab himself. Employees of the store called the police.

The man jumped down from the roof and entered a resident's backyard behind the store. The family called police as well. The man remains in their backyard with the knife and may be suicidal. Investigators say he may have a rope around his neck as he sits next to the pool.

Police have set a perimeter in the area as they work to apprehend him. Motorists should avoid Decatur Boulevard, in both directions, from Washington to Vegas Drive and Washington from Decatur to Michael Way.
