Police are awaiting a decision from the Clark County coroner on the cause and manner of death of a 5-month-old boy found unresponsive at an apartment complex on South Las Vegas Boulevard last week.

Thomas Fetterman died Wednesday at a hospital after he was transported by ambulance shortly before noon from an apartment complex in the 7200 block of South Las Vegas Boulevard, Officer Laura Meltzer of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said.

Because of the child's age and following standard procedures, abuse and neglect detectives were assigned to the case and spoke with an adult man at the hospital, Meltzer said.

No charges have been filed.

The Clark County coroner's office said it is awaiting toxicology and other tests, which might take several weeks.

Department of Family Services has a prior Child Protective Services investigation for the child and family, according to a DCFS report.

On Oct. 12, a report was received concerning child neglect. The report said the allegations were substantiated.

The family was given information regarding community resources and was referred to appropriate services.

The case was closed Nov. 14.
