Police: Homeowner shoots bedroom intruder in western Las Vegas Valley

A suspected home intruder is recovering at UMC Trauma this morning after police say he was shot by the owner of a home in the western Las Vegas Valley.

Police received the call just before 5:40 a.m. for the 10600 block of Refectory Avenue, near West Desert Inn Road and South Town Center Drive, according to Metro Officer Michael Rodriguez. The homeowner said he woke up to find the male suspect inside his bedroom.

The suspect was shot in the right thigh and attempted to escape. He was detained in the backyard and arrested.

His injuries are described as nonlife-threatening.
