Woman allegedly shot by corrections officer was California resident
LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — MONDAY UPDATE | The victim has been identified as 32-year-old Cheri Anaya of Bakersfield, Calif.
The died of a gunshot wound to the head and neck, said the Clark County coroner.
ORIGINAL STORY | A Nevada corrections officer is wanted by police in the shooting death of a woman who was found early Saturday by her children in an east valley residence.
Christopher Caggiano, 41, is wanted by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
Caggiano is believed to be driving his vehicle, described as a 2017 White Nissan Rogue SUV with Nevada license plate 69B 230.
He has been a Nevada Department of Corrections officer since 2014.
Just before 9 a.m. Saturday, police received a call from a 9-year-old reporting that her mother was unconscious.
LVMPD patrol officers were dispatched to the 4600 block of Dealers Choice Way, just south of Eastside Cannery, to investigate.
In one of the bedrooms, officers located a woman with an apparent gunshot wound lying in a pool of blood. Medical personnel were summoned and they pronounced the woman deceased on scene.
Detectives with the LVMPD Homicide Section have identified Caggiano, a former boyfriend with whom the victim has children in common, as the suspect in the case.
During the course of the investigation detectives learned the victim and their children had been temporarily staying with Caggiano. Friday night the couple was having an argument when they went to bed. On Saturday morning, Caggiano and his vehicle were gone.
