ORIGINAL STORY:

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting.

The shooting occurred just before 11 p.m. Thursday night near Mount Hood Street and Owens Avenue.

Police say a woman and her boyfriend got into a fight. She told officers her boyfriend shot his gun in their yard before driving away. The girlfriend told police he said he wanted cops to shoot him.

When the boyfriend came back, officers were at the house. Police say he opened fire on the officers, and they all returned fire, shooting and killing the man.

The event was the eighth police shooting in Las Vegas this year.

The 26-year-old was home with his girlfriend when neighbors called 911 reporting possible domestic violence.

Police say they were called out just before 11 p.m. Thursday night, on reports of shots fired in the 1700 block of Eddingham Court.

Investigators say when they arrived they found a woman who told them she and her boyfriend had gotten into a fight which had gotten physical. They say she told officers her boyfriend had shot his gun in their yard before driving away. The girlfriend also reportedly told police that the man said he planned on returning and wanted officers to shoot him.

Police also say she told them he was armed with possibly two weapons, a handgun, and a shotgun.

“She did inform them that the male said he was going to come back to the scene and make the cops shoot him,” said LVMPD Capt. Kelly McMahill.

The man did return home, where police say, at this point, four officers were now present. Police say they began negotiations to talk him down, though, after about five minutes, they say he opened fire. They say the gun was pointed at two of the four officers.

LVMPD says all four officers returned fire, shooting and killing the man.

Friends of the man say they are shocked at the news of this death.

“It's very sad for his family. I called his brother this morning and he told me, 'This is true. Frank is gone',” said the man’s friend, Amarjit Raju. “Frank was not one of those guys, who got into that kind of situation. I do not know what drove him to that point that he got to, but you know it happened."

“What he did last night … I feel like it was—emotion took over. Anger took over,” says Adrian Sotelo, a coworker who has known Suarez for two years. “He did have weapons, as far as for protection for him and his family. But as far as he meaning to harm anybody, never."

The man’s family is asking for privacy at this time. They say he is a father of two young children. He had lived with his girlfriend, also the mother of his children, for two years.

This is the eighth police shooting in LVMPD’s jurisdiction in Las Vegas since the beginning of 2017.
