Recreational pot sales got the go-ahead by Henderson City Council members on Tuesday, but not without plenty of discussions.

Regulations were approved in a three to two decision, which allows the current five medical marijuana businesses to apply for licenses to sell recreational marijuana through the state.

Prior to the decision, some Henderson council members said it took a long time to make the decision while others said the decision was not hard.

John Marz said he was concerned Henderson's status may change with the approval of recreational marijuana.

"For me to say we are a premier city and then we turn around and say we are going to endorse recreational marijuana is just an oxymoron," said Marz.

On the other hand, council member Schroder said she is concerned that Henderson is already feeling the impact of recreational sales from other local cities.

In July, after recreational sales were legal, Henderson Police confirmed nine of 33 DUI's were related to marijuana. In August, another ten of 54 DUI arrests were also pot-related.

Henderson spokesperson's said once businesses are licensed to sell recreationally they will be allowed to start retail sales, likely in October.
