Free transit service is now being offered in the Las Vegas Valley for furloughed federal workers, according to the RTC of Southern Nevada.

The offer is effective Friday and lasts until the partial government shutdown comes to an end, RTC said in a statement.

"We understand that many furloughed federal employees may be struggling financially during the ongoing government shutdown and transportation costs should not be an additional burden," RTC general manager Tina Quigley said.

You must show a federal employee ID to the driver when boarding the bus, according to RTC.

The transit service joins other local agencies and organizations, like Three Square and United Way, working to provide help to federal employees as the partial government shutdown enters its 28th day on Friday, Jan. 18.
