The Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada has partnered with a leading public transportation app to help riders avoid crowded busses.

Real-time occupancy rates of all RTC busses will be available on the Transit app, which is available on Android and iOS devices, starting immediately.

According to transportation officials, the vehicles will show in real-time their location along with three crowding levels: "Many seats," "Some seats," or "Very limited seats."

Vehicles below 50 percent occupancy will display "many seats," while those with 50 to 90 percent will show "some seats" and those at 90 percent or higher "very limited seats."

“As we continue to navigate through this pandemic, we are operating our transit vehicles at a 50-percent capacity to allow riders to practice safe social distancing,” said MJ Maynard, RTC chief executive officer

The application operates in more than 200 cities worldwide and also includes the option of purchasing QR code tickets right from the app's home screen.

“Even after the pandemic, crowding information is sure to benefit RTC customers. It’s been great to partner with an agency like the RTC that’s taking the lead on improving the rider experience," said
