LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Flash flooding plagued the Las Vegas valley Thursday night as storms continued to move through the region.
The National Weather Service in Las Vegas issued a flash flood warning for much of the valley for the evening. That has since given way to a flood advisory, which was expected to remain in place until 2:45 a.m. Friday.
Drivers are reminded not to attempt to cross flooded streets and avoid washes.
The Clark County Regional Flood Control District said it has detected rising water levels in channels and detention basins.
This comes after a severe thunderstorm warning was issued for the north Las Vegas valley earlier in the evening.
That warning has been extended until 10:15 p.m. and has been expanded for the rest of the valley.
Powerful wind gusts have also been reported, including approaching 70 mph on the east side of town.
NV Energy is reporting more than 7,200 customers are without power as of 10:15 p.m. Thursday. Outages have been primarily reported in the downtown Las Vegas and east valley areas.
Twitter users posted images showing water flooding some parts of the valley.
One person shared video of water pouring out of the video wall at the Circa Sportsbook in downtown Las Vegas. Another posted video of water leaking through the roof of Planet Hollywood.
Others showed that the Viva Vision canopy at the Fremont Street Experience was out, along with other lights in the district.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police reported at least eight vehicle accidents since the rain began Thursday night, though it's unclear if all of them are weather-related.
A downed tree was partially blocking 13th Street at Stewart Avenue, while at least one car was stuck or stalled in flood waters at Commerce and Charleston.
Water was also reportedly rising at Charleston and Maryland Parkway. Police later said they expected road closures on Charleston stretching through the central valley.
