Will Millenials play in mobile slot tournaments? MGM Resorts International is betting the answer is yes, taking gaming to a new platform. 7/12/2016 (Sergio Avila | KSNV)

As the years have passed, slot machine areas in many casinos have seen the number of players sitting at the machines dwindling.

Younger gamblers just aren't impressed by the machines and MGM resorts are trying to tap the market with a brand new game.

"The slot machine isn't what's going to be the attraction for them. It's going to be what they're comfortable with what's in their hand 18 out of the 24 hours of the day," said Lovell Walker, Director of Interactive Gaming for MGM Resorts.

Walker says taking slot machines from the casino floor to your cell phone is part of the answer.

"Everything in gaming is switching to the mobile device, like everything in the world in switching to the mobile device," said Lovell.

MGM Resorts is the first casino that will offer slot tournaments right from your smartphone.

The only catch is you have to be connected to the Wi-Fi network at an MGM property.

"Slots is just the tip of the iceberg. We're going to have blackjack, we're going to have video poker. We want to have a game similar to Candy Crush," said Lovell.

Scott Roeben had a chance to try out the new game.

"They describe it as the new keno and I think that's kind of true," said Roeben.

Players can sign up for tournaments throughout the day, each entry costs a minimum of a dollar for the chance win a tournament and real cash.

Roeben says many of his friends play mobile games with no real goal, that's what makes this different.

"There's really no prize, you're kind of, it's just bragging rights. But knowing that you can actually get cash out of the deal and win the tournament and walk to the cage and cash out is pretty amazing," said Roeben.

Just another evolution for casinos as they hope to capture their next generation of players.

If you'd like to sign up for a tournament you can do so at but you have to be connected to an MGM Wi-Fi.
