STUDY: Nevada most targeted state for tax season scams

    AllAreaCodes.com released the results of a study Tuesday, Feb. 26, which found that Nevada is the most targeted state in the U.S. for tax season phone scams.

    The study reportedly analyzed 15 million consumer complaints released by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) from 2016 to 2018.

    According to the study, Nevada ranked number one with 2,579 FTC complaints per 100,000 people.

    Close behind in second is Colorado with 2,552 complaints per 100,000 people.

    In particular, Clark County ranks as the third most targeted county in the U.S.

    The study found that phone scams increase 20 percent from January to March and April.

    The least targeted state in the U.S. is Alaska with only 549 complaints per 100,000 people.
