NEW MUGSHOT: Suspect shot in face by homeowner claims he was being chased

    The suspect in an attempted home invasion who ended up being shot by the homeowner told police that he was carrying a knife because he was being chased by someone.

    Alexander Gonzales, 40, is facing charges of burglary with a deadly weapon; attempted burglary with a deadly weapon; and possession of a controlled substance.

    He was shot after being confronted in the kitchen of a residence around 12:40 a.m. Friday on the 300 block of Maddelena Avenue, near Bermuda Road and St. Rose Parkway, according to the Metro arrest report.

    The homeowner had his hands up and told the police where his gun was when officers arrived, according to the report. He said he and his wife heard someone trying to get into their house through the back sliding door.

    Gonzales is scheduled to appear in court at 9:30 a.m. March 1.

    Gonzales's booking, which shows the aftermath of his injuries, was released by police.
