Teen dies in possible drowning at Lake Mohave

UPDATE, July 6 | The Clark County Coroner's Office has identified the victim as 16-year-old Jonathan Gabriel James of Imperial Beach, California.

ORIGINAL | A teen is dead after an incident at Lake Mead National Recreation Area.

On July 3, at 6:18 p.m. the Lake Mead Interagency Communication Center received a report of a possible drowning at Cabinsite Cove on Lake Mohave.

The victim was brought to shore by bystanders who were advised to perform CPR.

National Park Service rangers and Bullhead City Fire Department responded to the scene.

The teen was transported to a Las Vegas hospital where he later died.

Initial reports indicate the teen was swimming out to a buoy. On his way back, bystanders reportedly noticed he was having difficulty and saw him go underwater. He was not wearing a life jacket. Bystanders retrieved him from the water and performed CPR until first responders arrived.

The incident is under investigation.
