The 15th annual EVO gaming competition is underway at the Convention Center at Mandalay Bay.

The event brings together 6,500 gamers who compete against each other, electronically, in life or death matches.

The players travel from across the country and around the world, and in many cases, they’ve already played together virtually but never in person.

“For a lot of people, this is the only time that you can actually come here, and meet these people, especially when they come from overseas,” says John Schuld, a gamer.

On Friday, 1,200 gamers are competing to be one of eight finalists to playing Tekken 7.

On Sunday, top gamers will compete for cash prizes in excess of $30,000.
