Vacant house sustains heavy damage after catching fire near Sahara, Valley View
LAS VEGAS (KSNV) —
A house sustained heavy damage after it caught fire.
Thursday afternoon, fire dispatchers received several 911 calls around 1:48 p.m. that black smoke was coming from the carport of a one-story home on Las Verdes Street near West Sahara Avenue and Valley View Boulevard.
One caller told dispatchers they thought the fence between two houses was on fire.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, they saw heavy smoke coming from underneath the carport and the form the roof.
Firefighters found the fire burning outside. As it got larger, it burned into the attic spreading across the house. It took firefighters about 15 minutes to bring the fire under control.
The fire damaged the carport, exterior wall of the house and heavily damaged the attic.
No injuries were reported during the incident.
Damage was estimated at $75,000.
The cause of the fire is undetermined. Fire investigators believe the fire started under the carport next to the wood fence.
Neighbors told fire investigators the house has been vacant for over a year. They have not seen anyone around the house.
