Woke, Lit, Bae: The vocabulary teens and young adults are using

There’s a whole new vocabulary for teens and young adults.

"Woke, you’re aware of all the social justice stuff that goes on. Skurt is like, 'move on, next, we don’t have time for that,' and Gucci is like 'cool, okay, that’s fine,'" one girl said.

Dr. Daliah Wachs says it's a whole new language that's growing as fast as technology.

“For me as not only an educator but as a family physician, I need to be aware that our vernacular is changing,” Dr. Wachs said.

Right now, young people are using vocabulary that's more concise and to the point.

Most words like GOAT, woke and squad are completely harmless, but not all.

“They need to understand that some of the things may have little innuendos or they may have some very serious undertones such as a sexual relationship, such as drugs,” Dr. Wachs said.

In a world where social media is constantly evolving, she encourages parents to stay in the know.

“It’s one of those things where you either get with the times or you get left behind and you still think woke is waking up,” a college student said.
