ORIGINAL | A woman has died after she was struck by a bus near a Las Vegas Strip resort Thursday morning, according to authorities.

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police got a report of a crash in the area of Las Vegas Boulevard and Sands Avenue, toward the rear of the Venetian, just after 6 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 14.

Police say it appears that a bus hit a pedestrian, who was taken to a hospital where she died from her injuries.

In a statement released Thursday afternoon, LVMPD's Fatal Detail said the initial investigation indicates the pedestrian was crossing a private drive at the resort near a marked crosswalk.

A private bus heading north hit the pedestrian and ran over her, according to police.

The driver of the bus, identified as 66-year-old Gregory Patterson, stayed at the scene. Officers suspected he was "impaired by medicinal substances," according to the statement, and he was arrested.

It's not immediately clear what charges Patterson could face.
