A woman who pleaded guilty in connection to the 2016 death of a pedestrian was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Whitney Greco, 26, will be eligible for parole in five years, according to the sentence imposed Wednesday morning by Judge Elissa Cadish.

"I am deeply sorry for everything that happened,” Greco said in court. “The pain I go through over this accident is unbearable."

Greco had alcohol and marijuana in her system when she hit 29-year-old Adan Cohen on June 28, 2016, near West Sunset Road and the 215.

Cohen, who had been out for a morning jog, was dragged underneath Greco’s vehicle as she attempted to leave the scene.

In court, prosecutors played the last conversation Cohen had on the phone as he was jogging. He is speaking Hebrew and before the collision is heard.

Prosecutors say this shows Greco knew what she was doing. The district attorney says those eight seconds of silence show Greco thought of her actions then revved her engine with Cohen wedged underneath her car.

Michal Yosef, Cohen’s fiancée said, "He had gone out jogging because he wanted to be fit for the wedding. That's when it happens," said Michal Yosef, Cohen’s fiancée.

Greco's defense says Cohen was partly at fault since he was running on a dark area 3 feet on the road.

"I don't want to lose who I am to an institution like prison,” Greco said. “This was an accident, an accident I'm taking responsibility for. I have learned 100 percent from."

The prosecution says while Greco was out in bail, she tampered with a device that monitored alcohol consumption. The machine showed at certain times she was under the influence of alcohol.

"Everything was destroyed within seconds because of one wrong decision of one human being — Whitney Greco," Yosef said.
