Young girl says former teacher 'would touch her inappropriately'

A former Clark County School District teacher accused of performing lewd acts on one of his middle school students faced a judge Tuesday.

At the hearing, former West Prep teacher, Kweku Turkson, not only sat before the judge, but the middle-schooler who is accusing him of the crimes.

News 3 is choosing to not identify the witness who took the stand Tuesday because she is a minor.

In court, the now 14-year-old testified that she was 12 when she first met Turkson.

Turkson appeared in court, out of custody on bail.

The student first came forward with the allegations during the last school year after she says a substitute teacher got ahold of a letter she had written him.

In court Tuesday, the student testified that she visited the former English teacher multiple times after school. She testified that during the one-on-one visits, Turkson would touch her inappropriately and/or force her hand or body on his private parts.

“I knew it was wrong. I just didn't know how to stop it,” she testified. “He said, ‘You better not tell anyone... If you tell someone I will go to jail and I don’t care because I’ve been to jail before.’”

After Tuesday’s testimony from that victim, the defense and prosecution agreed to meet back up for arguments later this week.

Turkson will be back in court this Thursday.
