Body of infant discovered inside cooler bag alongside road in Georgia

The body of a baby was discovered inside a cooler bag alongside a Georgia road.

The infant's corpse was found Sunday afternoon on Boy Scout Road in Troup county.

Officials say someone happened to be driving by and noticed the bright cooler bag decorated in watermelons.

Authorities believe the bag may have been on the side the road for at least four days... Or as long as a week.

"There is no excuse why they disposed of it like it was, or why they disposed of the child like they did,” said Sergeant Stewart Smith of the Troup County Sherrif’s office. “But again, we just want to know the circumstances or what happened, what led up to the death of this child."

The child was a white girl and had no obvious signs of trauma or injury. An autopsy did not determine the cause of death.
