ORLANDO, Fla. (CBS12) — Gov. Ron DeSantis played the greatest hits of his "anti-woke" agenda during his first public appearance since announcing his candidacy for the countries highest office earlier this week.
DeSantis, speaking at the Florida Homeschool Convention in Orlando, opened his appearance by asking the crowd "are you proud to be a Floridian?" He also took his usual shots at former New York Governor Cuomo and Dr. Anthony Fauci.
While talking about Florida's willingness to put kids back in school, the Governor also took shots at cities with democratic leadership and their hesitation to do the same.
Mentioning Chicago, DeSantis said children are more likely to be shot rather than receive a "world class education."
Gov. DeSantis also dug in in his continued fight against Disney, making it clear he had no intention of backing down.
We run the state of Florida, they do not run the state of Florida.
The Florida governor had a rocky start to his presidential bid, dealing a glitchy live stream announcement on Twitter with Elon Musk. Despite the less than stellar launch, DeSantis managed to raise more than $8 million in the first 24 hours.
DeSantis has an uphill battle to win the republican nomination, with former President Trump holding a double-digit lead over the Florida governor according to a new Quinnipiac poll.
Despite the long odds, DeSantis seems determined to push for the nomination.
"I have only begun to fight," the Florida Governor proclaimed while wrapping up his appearance.
