Arrests made after 'Patriot Prayer' rally in Portland, protests continue in Vancouver

PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland Police took seven demonstrators into custody Sunday after a "Patriot Prayer" Free Speech rally was met with counter protesters in Portland's Waterfront Park.

Police said two officers were injured; one was hit in the face with a projectile.

The Patriot Prayer group planned to hold two rallies on Sunday. They initially planned a rally and march at 12:30 p.m. along Portland’s waterfront. Group leader Joey Gibson later added a second rally at Vancouver Landing Amphitheater. Police made two arrests after that rally ended.

Counter-protesters also gathered in Waterfront Park on Sunday afternoon, at one point pushing over a police barricade that separated the two groups. It appears one person was detained in the park before officers in tactical gear filed into the park.

The group started to leave the park about 1:30 p.m. and march through the streets. Officers arrested several other protesters in the streets.

All seven will be arraigned on Monday:

• 27-year-old Tyler W. Bristow was arrested near Southwest Park Avenue and Southwest Taylor street on charges of Interfering with a Police Officer and Resist Arrest.
• 37-year-old Chad Skjei was arrested near Southwest 3rd Avenue and Southwest Taylor Street on charges of Interfering with a Police Officer, Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree, and Attempt Theft in the Second Degree.
• 18-year-old Thomas "Sarah" Wallace was arrested near Southwest 3rd Avenue and Southwest Taylor Street on charges of Assault on a Police Officer (two counts) and Harassment.
• 35-year-old Deaclan S. Lenartz was arrested near Southwest 3rd Avenue and Southwest Taylor Street on charges of Interfering with a Police Officer and Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree.
• 42-year-old Naomi G. Seraphina was arrested near Southwest 3rd Avenue and Southwest Taylor Street on charges of Interfering with a Police Officer and Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree.
• 27-year-old Alice E. Hall was arrested near Southwest 3rd Avenue and Southwest Taylor Street on charges of Interfering with a Police Officer and Disorderly Conduct in the Second Degree.
• 37-year-old Eli F. Richey was arrested near Southwest 3rd Avenue and Southwest Taylor Street on a charge of Interfering with a Police Officer.

Counter protesters ended up congregating at Terry Schrunk Free Speech Plaza, where dozens had gathered earlier in the day for a rally hosted by Portland Stands United Against Hate.

In a video update posted overnight Saturday, Gibson promised “a mixture of fire, danger, and calm."

The Vancouver rally was expected to march across the Interstate Bridge back into Portland.

The Oregon Department of Transportation said they closed down the bridge's sidewalks on Sunday because of the expected protest.

Portland Police officials said there will be additional officers in the area ready to step in, because of the history of violence and threats between the groups involved.

Gibson's group recently hosted similar rallies in Seattle and San Francisco - both events were met with large scale counter protests.
