EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) - Two parents were arrested Friday in connection with the death of their 4-year-old son, who was mauled by family dogs in July, police said.

Detectives arrested Brittany Brooks, 27, and Ashley Brooks, 29, at a family member’s house and charged them with Injury to a Child.

On July 27, Jacob Brooks was killed by four family dogs, who have since been euthanized.

Police say the child was left in the backyard of a home on the 9100 block of Morelia Road where the dogs were located. He was in an enclosed trampoline when the incident happened.

The house is vacant now, with boxes piled up in front of the door and weeds growing everywhere.

The trampoline where he was attacked still sits in shambles in the backyard.

Neighbors told KFOX14 the family moved out a few weeks after the attack.

Officials say three of the dogs were shepherd mixes and one was a pit bull.

“I understand they didn't feed the dogs, 'cause they'd be crying all night and my next-door neighbor said they've be crying all night,” Silverio Murillo said.

As KFOX14 previously reported, a report from El Paso Animal Services detailed how the family’s four dogs were starving and unsocialized.

CPS investigated the family after the attack.

Neighbors who witnessed the incident back in July say it's a shocking ending to a sad situation.

“I don't know what happened, but if they arrested them, it’s sad. It’s sad to hear what happened,” Murillo said.

The two women are being held in the El Paso County Detention Facility with their bail set at $7,500 each.

Additionally, Brittany Brooks was booked on multiple traffic warrants that carried bonds totaling $6,300. Ashley Brooks also had traffic warrants with bonds totaling $630.
