98-year-old Holocaust survivor and WWII French spy to visit Las Vegas
LAS VEGAS (KSNV) —
Marthe Cohn, a 98-year-old Holocaust survivor and World War II French spy, will be speaking in Las Vegas on Wed., May 23 at The Adelson Educational Campus, 9700 Hillpointe Road. She will share her gripping story of survival and espionage to an audience suitable for individuals of all faiths.
Following her family's daring escape from Nazi-occupied France and her sister’s death in Auschwitz, Cohn went on to be recruited by the Intelligence Service of the French 1st Army on account of her blonde hair, blue eyes and thorough command of the German language. Posing as a German nurse desperately searching for her fictional fiance positioned on the front lines, she successfully retrieved troves of crucial information regarding the positioning of German troops.
With a fading generation of Holocaust survivors, there is a moral obligation to hear their first hand accounts now more than ever,” said Rabbi Yosef Rivkin, co-director of Chabad of Red Rock, the organization sponsoring the event. “Mrs. Cohn embodies the positive messages of turning tears into action and overcoming darkness. She brings a positive message of hope, strength and triumph.”
At age 80, Mrs. Cohn was awarded for her service with the Croix de Guerre, France's highest military honor.
