We've been talking a lot about the importance of routine checkups, even during a pandemic, and this goes for your teeth too.

Owner of Green Valley Smiles Dentistry and creator of Oral Health Minute, is Dr. Bianca Velayo.

The Mouth Body Connection refers to the link between oral health and overall systemic health.

The harmful bacteria and inflammation in our mouth plays a role in chronic, systemic diseases like heart disease, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, stroke, lung problems, pre-term low-birth-weight babies, and even erectile dysfunction.

Studies have found that COVID-19 patients with gum disease were more likely to experience complications, more likely to be admitted to the ICU and be on a ventilator, and more likely to die.

Warning signs for gum disease include red or swollen gums, bleeding gums, bad breath, tartar build-up on the teeth, longer-looking teeth, increased spaces between teeth or teeth moving apart, and loose teeth.
