Dr. Christensen

Jim Christensen, M.D. has been practicing medicine for over thirty years. As an allergist / immunologist he’s trained to diagnose, treat and manage allergies, asthma and immu-nologic disorders including primary immunodeficiency disorders - a group of more than 300 rare, chronic disorders in which part of the body's immune system is missing or functions improperly.

Lung and allergy care is about treating diseases of both the immune system and the lungs. You can affect the lungs through the airways themselves, through the tissues in the lungs or you can have neuromuscular, muscular or neuromuscular causes of airway disease. As far as allergies go, that affects about 25% of the population and it can be from a variety of things -- trees, grasses and weeds are the most common. So, the care that we provide is care for asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, other dis-eases of the lung such as bronchiolitis or tuberculosis.

For allergy, we do traditional pollen allergies as well as food allergies and urticaria.

Well the simple things that you can do is #1, get exercise on a regular basis. The sec-ond most important thing is if you do smoke, please stop smoking and if you don’t smoke, don’t even start and that includes vaping. It’s important for you to avoid high pol-lution days and the air quality district will publish the high pollution days so if you have chronic lung and respiratory problems you want to stay inside those days.

And then, it’s always important to maintain a relationship with your doctor and see your doctor on a regular basis so you can get on that preventative health band wagon.
