Forest Service: Don't expect much snow in Spring Mountains area

The Spring Mountains National Recreation Area could get a dusting of snow Thanksgiving weekend, but forest officials say people shouldn't expect enough for any snow-related activities. (KSNV)

Don't plan on taking out the sled this week.

The U.S. Forest Service is advising people that while some snowfall is expected in the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area, it will likely be a light dusting in the higher elevations.

There won't be enough for sledding, snowshoeing or other kinds of snow activity. Recreation sites will be open though, along with picnic areas and several hiking trails, the Forest Service said in a statement.

The Spring Mountain Visitor Gateway is closed on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas and New Year's Day. It will close at 2 p.m. on New Year's Eve.

Those interested in visiting the Spring Mountain area should check on road conditions, particularly on weekends,
